Photo Series: Barbican Centre
My first encounter with this awesome bit of concrete jungle situated in the center of London was back in the 90’s when myself and some friends went on a skateboarding mission to find the famous ‘Barbican banks’ that were at the time skateable (with the risk of getting a bucket shower from the residents above mind you), rolling around this place was like being in a futuristic skateboarding movie! the spacious ‘all brick banks’ with there lush green grass made great carving and the area was usually very quiet so you would have it all to yourself…
Forward to 2017 and recently I’ve made a few trips into the Barbican for a different reason, to take some photos (although I have had my cruzer board on me, and the temptation to have a little roll is always been there, the security and now skate-stopped banks lead me to believe its probably easier to carry the thing around here), it’s still got that awe about it though, all that crazy crete, towering over weird shapes and colourful flower beds – it’s still a peaceful place to walk around for an hour or so and admire the timeless design. I’m sure I’ll be going back to see if I missed anything plus they regularly have some good art exhibits on, and maybe, just maybe a little silent roll on the ol’ cruzer…
